Coronation Street's Lisa Swain and Carla Connor had an emotional chat after last week’s proposal cliffhanger.

In last week’s episodes, the Weatherfield community went into mourning as news spread that Craig had died from his injuries in the line of duty.

Lisa faced the difficult task of interviewing Craig's killer Mick Michaelis. When the detective returned home after a stressful shift, she became overwhelmed by emotion as she realised how short life is.

Wanting to secure her relationship with Carla sooner rather than later, Lisa asked her partner to marry her in a cliffhanger ending.

In today’s episode (26 May), the couple had a heart-to-heart after the proposal as Carla asked Lisa: “Why are you refusing to talk about what happened last night?"

She added: "Can I ask you a question… did you mean it? I mean, do you really want to marry me?"

Lisa seemed a little nervous and didn't immediately answer the question leaving Carla with doubts over whether the proposal was genuine.

She eventually said: "I think maybe my emotions just got the better of me."

"So you didn’t mean it?" Carla asked.

"No, I did. Of course I did. I love you," Lisa insisted, before explaining she was just trying to be "nice".

Carla joked that Lisa should just buy her a cake if she wanted to be nice, with Lisa responding: "Fine, I was stupid, so now I’m officially withdrawing my offer."

Carla explained that she’d love for them to get married one day, but said it needed to be out of "love, not grief".

Will the couple be able to get back on track?
