Coronation Street's Bernie Winter risks slipping up next week as she goes all-out to protect Brody Michaelis.

When Brody finds himself in trouble with the police yet again, Bernie decides that family comes first and puts her own freedom at risk to help him.

Bernie's surprising move unfolds after Brody breaks into Kit Green's flat and trashes the place.

Brody is out for revenge after the much-deserved arrest of his dad Mick. Despite Mick's string of violent crimes in the Weatherfield area, Brody convinces himself that it's all a police stitch-up and targets Kit for revenge.

As Kit has had enough of the Michaelis family causing so much trouble on the Street, he reports Brody for what he did.

Sadly, he's immediately contradicted by Bernie, who gives Brody a false alibi for the time of the incident.

"Kit's furious when he finds out what Bernie has done," our Corrie source explains.

"He's left with a big decision – he can either tell his colleague Lisa that he was mistaken about the culprit being Brody, or make Bernie pay for lying by charging her with perverting the course of justice."

Bernie defends herself to Kit, insisting that Brody is family and needs their support. The show has recently revealed that Brody may be Kit's biological son, as Kit slept with Lou when they were teenagers.

Scrambling to regain control of the situation, Kit tells Brody that he'll make the burglary charges disappear if he agrees to stay out of trouble from now on.

"It's good advice for Brody, as he's only just been released from the Secure Training Centre and needs to stay out of trouble," our insider continues.

"Brody is still very angry on Mick's behalf, though, and may not back down so easily…"
