Coronation Street's Bernie Winter plays a key role in Kit Green and Mick Michaelis's special flashback episode next week.

Bernie prompts some surprising revelations as she pushes her estranged son to be honest about his secret connection to Mick.

Upcoming episodes see Kit arouse further suspicion as he keeps letting Mick off for his recent crimes in the Weatherfield area.

Every time Kit is called to deal with Mick in his role as a detective constable, he lets his old acquaintance walk free without punishment.

In tense scenes next week, Bernie steps in as Maria Connor and Gary Windass both rage over Kit's lack of action where Mick is concerned.

Bernie pays a visit to Kit's flat, demanding to know why he keeps covering for Mick. Could Bernie be the person Kit turns to as a confidante?

"Kit's scenes with Bernie are interspersed with the special flashback scenes showing younger versions of Kit, Mick and Lou," our Corrie source explains.

"Fans will have to tune in to see whether Kit is willing to be honest with Bernie after their turbulent history, but viewers will definitely be put in the picture over why Mick seems to have dirt on Kit – which all relates to their friendship from years ago..."

Earlier this week, Jacob Roberts – who plays Kit – promised that his character's story with Bernie would be revisited soon.

"I think playing a detective constable helps – I've got to meet a lot of the cast members and got to work with everyone," Jacob told us.

"Seeing how different people work and trying to develop relationships with other people has been good. It's literally been half the street up to now!

"The Bernie story was put on hold to do all the police storylines, but then we're coming back into the Bernie stuff so we'll find out more about that as well."

Coronation Street airs the flashback episode on Friday 16 May on ITV1 and ITVX.
