Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Max Turner is given some major news this week, which could pave the way for him to leave Weatherfield behind.

Following last week's devastating fire at the Platt family home, accusations have been flying about who started the blaze by pushing a petrol-soaked rag through the letterbox and setting it on fire.

Last night's episode saw Max's horrified stepmum Shona Platt realise that Max must have been responsible for the crime, as she watched a CCTV clip of the arsonist searching for cans of petrol at the garage.

Recognising the distinctive black hoodie that the person was wearing as the same one she bought Max for Christmas, Shona was shocked to discover that Max had set his own home on fire.

In scenes that will air on Tuesday, February 18, Max realises that he has well and truly been caught out over his secret, having confessed to Shona that he started the fire in an attempt to claim the insurance money to pay back gangster Harvey Gaskell.

When Shona and husband David go to visit Max in prison, they break the news to him that they've applied for Max to transfer to a prison in Scotland in order to keep him safe, due to Harvey and his gang's ongoing threats.

Max remains concerned that he might never be safe from the dangerous criminals, no matter how far he goes.

Could Max's prison transfer mark the end of his time on the soap, or will he face a more sinister exit?

Max star Paddy Bever confirmed last month that he was leaving his Corrie role and that he had already filmed his final scenes, with his exit due to play out over the coming weeks.

The actor later shared a statement with Digital Spy about his decision, saying: "After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max and Coronation Street to explore new opportunities."

He added: "I'm eternally grateful for the chance to bring Max's story to life, and it's been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
