Coronation Street has revealed a first look at Gail Rodwell's big Christmas Eve surprise.

The legendary character gets an unexpected visitor as she faces a tough decision over whether to marry Jesse Chadwick or not.

Gail is currently planning to tie the knot with Jesse and make a fresh start with him in France, much to the alarm of her disapproving family.

As Christmas week begins and the wedding is imminent, Gail's mum Audrey Roberts steps up her desperate attempts to interfere.

Audrey threatens to cut ties with Gail if she goes through with her romantic plans. Gail is stunned as Audrey spitefully vows never to see her again if the ceremony and France move go ahead.

Not stopping there, Audrey also warns Gail that Jesse is in cahoots with her son David Platt and they're both keeping secrets from her. Will she spill the beans over Damon Hay's missing money?

Feeling upset and exhausted by everything, Gail heads home and falls asleep, but she's faced with a surprise visitor as she drifts in and out of her dreams. Will this person help her to decide what to do regarding Jesse?

Although Corrie bosses haven't confirmed the news officially, tabloid reports have suggested that Gail's visitor will be the ghost of her dangerous third husband Richard Hillman.

Brian Capron has reportedly reprised his role as the infamous Corrie serial killer for the special scenes.

Gail's final episode will then air on Christmas Day, but producers are keeping quiet about whether she gets her happy ending with Jesse or not.

Show chief Kate Brooks recently told us: "In a word, Christmas is very fun this year. It's a very lively Christmas on the Street and lots of bombshells are dropped.

"Obviously, this is set against Gail's wedding. Whether she goes through with that or not, I cannot say anything! But this is a story with the Platts at the heart of it.

"It's really festive. Basically it's a story about family and how secrets impact and implode on a family. There are a lot of betrayals. Lots of secrets are exposed during this episode and it will be like classic Corrie, with a bit of a twist."
