Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid endangers Carla Barlow's life next week as the battle for Underworld continues.

Stephen is currently hell-bent on taking over the factory by tricking the workforce into thinking that Carla isn't fit to be in charge.

Viewers have seen Stephen repeatedly spike Carla's drinks with LSD, causing her to behave erratically.

The villain is aware of Carla's history with psychosis and knows that her loved ones will worry about her mental health as the side effects of the drugs continue.

Next week, Carla accepts that she needs another conversation with Dr Gaddas after struggling to cope at work.

This follows more scheming from Stephen, who's starting to increase the doses of LSD.

After listening to Carla's problems, Dr Gaddas suggests that she needs to take an extended break from work. She also recommends that Carla should start taking antipsychotic medication again.

Later, Stephen secretly pockets Carla's keys at the factory.

Stephen drops the keys back into Carla's bag, before heading into the kitchen and turning on the grill.

Could Stephen's sly behaviour cause a fire in the flat?

Last month, Todd Boyce – who plays Stephen – admitted that he was expecting a backlash from fans over his character's attempts to bring down Carla.

Todd said: "She is a very popular character. Up until now he has targeted people who are relatively new characters that people haven't really got to know but this is different.

"Chris Gascoyne [who plays Carla's husband Peter] has been so lovely about it, he said, 'Oh mate you have no idea what you are in for when this starts'.

"Ali [King] and I have had some great scenes together, really fiery scenes and I have enjoyed that and I think people have enjoyed her getting one over on him, so they will hate it when the tables are turned."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
