Coronation Street's Todd Grimshaw makes huge decision to protect Paul Foreman

Todd Grimshaw has sacrificed himself to protect former romantic rival Paul Foreman in Coronation Street.

Viewers will remember that Todd's lies destroyed Paul's relationship with Billy, though all three have since mended fences to protect Summer from scheming Mike and Esther.

In Wednesday's (January 18) episode, the trio were enraged to find out from police that Mike and Esther have accused Summer of lying to them about the baby to extort money.

Later, Todd and Paul rushed to Summer's defence when they found Mike at her hospital bedside. Mike tried to make a hasty retreat, with Paul following to confront him.

By the time Mike got to his front door, he was facing both Todd and Paul. Push came to shove, leading to Mike being knocked over by Paul and smacking his head on a plant pot.

Todd immediately called for an ambulance then bundled Paul into the back of his van so they could escape.

As they sped off in the van, Todd felt guilty as Paul explained Summer's situation reminded him of his own with his abuser Kel. Todd only felt more guilty when Paul admitted he only ever felt safe when he was with Billy.

When the two got back home, a police officer arrived to question them over a reported assault on Mike. Todd jumped in before Paul and took responsibility for pushing Mike over.

Todd explained to police that he'd lost his temper during a tense confrontation with Mike, then shoved him down out of anger.
