Coronation Street airs Izzy's return scene

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has aired Izzy's return scene after a long absence from soap.

Cast member Cherylee Houston hasn't actually appeared on the Cobbles in person since 2020 due to the pandemic, but her character Izzy has often been mentioned.

It had been explained on-screen that Izzy was isolating at home, but she's now ventured out into Weatherfield to interact with her neighbours once again.

In Wednesday's episode (January 11), Izzy was briefly seen having a chat with Gary Windass in the pub about getting to have their son Jake stay with her for a few days.

Izzy noticed Gary seemed "distracted" during her anecdote about Jake's little pranks, so he confided in his former flame that he's worried about the "aggro" Maria is facing on the council.

"There's just some awful people out there," Gary admitted.

Gary found Maria wasn't exactly receptive when he encouraged her to "pull back" after the danger she has faced from the extremist group.

Coronation Street confirmed to Digital Spy last week that Cherylee started filming again before Christmas and has now returned full-time. She had last appeared in 2021 via an on-screen Zoom call.

Longtime cast member Cherylee has a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, which has made it necessary to shield at home for an extended period throughout the COVID pandemic.

While the actress has been away from the cobbles, Cherylee collected an MBE at Buckingham Palace for her services to drama and to people with disabilities.

The actress has been a cast member on Coronation Street since the spring of 2010, and has also appeared in Little Britain, Doctors and Holby City.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
