Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid covers his tracks with two more lies

Coronation Street's Stephen Reid continued to pile lie upon lie in tonight's (December 7) episode.

The latest instalments of the ITV soap started with Stephen and Elaine Jones enjoying each other's company at the café, with him trying to play down his arm being in a cast to everyone as just a little accident and nothing major (when in reality he crashed his moped and had to go to hospital).

Tim wasn't so sure about their blossoming romance, stating that his mum has been through enough with Geoff, but Elaine replied that Stephen is "honest to a fault".

A suspicious Gail Rodwell had been doing her research and – correctly – accused Stephen of secretly working as a delivery driver for Six Fellas in Bolton. But he said that wasn't the case and the calls from them were the owner blaming Stephen for one of their staff bumping into him and damaging their moped. Eventually, Gail seemed convinced.

Later on, Sarah's proposal fell through at work and Gail and Audrey Roberts pressured Stephen into investing the £12,000 she needed. With them putting him on the spot, he had no choice but to say yes.

Meeting up with Elaine again, Stephen claimed that his ex-wife was refusing to sign over the money she owed him, meaning he couldn't invest (while trying to spin it so it sounded like his ex was controlling him). But then he promised Sarah that he would find another way of getting her the money, so what is he planning?

David Platt actor Jack P Shepherd recently said that he feels like his character could be the one to discover the truth, but he doesn't want him to since he'd rather not join Leo on Stephen's kill list.

Elsewhere in tonight's episode, Tyrone Dobbs proposed to Fiz Stape, and Sean Tully invited Laurence Reeves to spend Christmas with his family, much to Todd Grimshaw's barely-concealed disappointment.
