Coronation Street's Fern to turn villainous in Bernie lookalike story

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Bernie finds herself facing some pretty heavy charges when the police come calling next week on Coronation Street, but will she be able to prove that she was not the guilty party?

Fern has been using her resemblance to Bernie to her advantage, and she's set to turn Bernie's life upside down when she takes this to a new level.

Pretending to be Bernie, Fern attends an interview for a cleaning job at a jewellery store via an agency, and she does so well that she's offered the job on the spot.

Fern heads straight to the shop to start her first cleaning shift. She's left to her own devices when the manager Walter goes to lunch, and she's later trusted with locking the store up when she's finished her own work.

That decision is a gift to Fern who had been eyeing the expensive stock up since she walked in. Not wanting to miss her golden opportunity, she makes a hasty exit having stolen a large number of valuable items.

But when Fern commits the crime, she does so while dressed up in Bernie's clothes, and it does not take long before Bernie realises that something terrible has gone on.

When the police turn up at Bernie's, she's stunned to be arrested on suspicion of theft – and then she is further shocked when she's shown the CCTV footage and she sees she has been framed for the crime – and she knows who by.

But getting the police to believe the elaborate-sounding story is easier said than done, despite Bernie doing all she can to convince them that she's been set up.

And things get even worse for Bernie when she gives the police Fern's number, and they tell her that it has been disconnected.

Will the police believe Bernie, who is released pending further investigation – or is she facing time behind bars for a crime that she did not commit?
