Former soap star Adam Rickitt has given an update on the banking scam which saw him conned out of tens of thousands of pounds, revealing he's been able to get the money back.
The actor, known for his roles in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, spoke about the incident on Good Morning Britain today (September 7) alongside his wife Katy.
"We lost £50,000... just shy of that, so £49,500," he said, revealing the scammers had been aiming to completely drain his account. "The scary thing is, that wasn't what they were aiming for. They weren't aiming for the £49,500, they were aiming to empty our entire business account."
The actor had previously revealed on Instagram how he received a phone call from what he thought was the fraud department at his bank. The caller claimed someone had tried to withdraw money from his account, prompting Adam to go through the standard security checks over the phone.

He added that the scammers knew about his banking history and were using a number which matched up to his bank's fraud department. "Naively, I didn't know you could ghost phone numbers," he said

The highly sophisticated nature of the scam even led host Susanna Reid to admit that she too would've fallen victim.
Reflecting on the moment he realised he'd been scammed, Adam added: "It was purely by chance after this two, three hour process, that I was able to spot that the money, that I was told would never be leaving our account, had actually been left and it wasn't [his bank] he was speaking to."
Despite the ordeal the couple have been through, they had nothing but praise for the bank, sharing it had been "fantastic" in supporting them and getting the money back.

"We got a call from them yesterday morning saying that the funds have come back to us, now basically in order to get the funds back when you've been a victim of a fraud is not to be at fault and normally that process can take a minimum of 15 working days," the actor said.
"The fact we got it back so quickly, I think means that they knew it was very apparent the information the scammers held on us something else had gone awry, I'm sure someone will be investigating that."
Katy added: "We have pulled our hair out for the last seven days, he had three hours of hell, so we basically went through everything with a fine-tooth comb and the reason we wanted to come on today is to try and stop even one person from getting scammed."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
