Coronation Street is lining up a huge shock for Evelyn Plummer, after her plans for a camping to trip with Arthur Medwin fall through.

Following a setback after their holiday to the Lakes last week, Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) suggests to Arthur (Paul Copley) that they should take a month's break rather than a weekend away in scenes set to air next week.

Taken aback by her suggestion, Arthur makes an excuse before rushing out, leaving Evelyn devastated. Eager to understand Arthur's change of heart, Evelyn later confronts him, only to be told that it might be best if the pair call their relationship off.

Putting on a brave face, Evelyn explains to Dev that her relationship is in the bin, her holiday cancelled, and that she'd like her job at the Corner Shop back.

Her work troubles are soon put on hold, however, when Toyah mentions to Evelyn that she saw Arthur at the hospital.
