Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Geoff Metcalfe has spent months trying to convince his friends and neighbours that wife Yasmeen Metcalfe is an alcoholic.

But now, Geoff will have to convince police that he is a victim, after putting Yasmeen through months of abuse.

However, on tonight's episode (May 8), viewers were given a hint that Geoff's lies about Yasmeen and his past could be exposed eventually.

While Geoff was telling the police that Yasmeen is an alcoholic who has previously been violent towards him, his son Tim chimed in to say that his mother Tess had a similar problem.

The police assumed Tim was talking about a woman named Jocelyn, who Geoff previously reported for violence, but when Tim didn't know who she was, Geoff was further questioned about his past.

Geoff said Jocelyn was a woman he went out with for a couple of months who later accused him of stalking her and then attacked him in a pub.

The police officer then pointed out that it was unusual Geoff had been the victim of three drunk and violent women, causing him to lash out.

But while Geoff was being questioned by the police, his daughter-in-law Sally looked uneasy.

Earlier, Sally had been in the hospital corridor when Alya had burst in to defend Yasmeen, saying that Geoff must have provoked her and that he has been gaslighting her about her drinking for months.

Yasmeen will now need all the support she can get, as at the end of tonight's episode she was charged with attempted murder.

Earlier this week, Corrie producer Iain MacLeod confirmed that Sally will ultimately support Yasmeen over Geoff, creating tensions with Tim.

He told Digital Spy and other media: "Sally has never been Geoff's biggest fan and she was among the first to have seen what was going on behind closed doors next door. This provides huge material for her and Tim.

"Obviously Tim, in his own way, has been brainwashed and gaslighted by Geoff since birth more or less. So he's very much Team Geoff, while Sally very quickly becomes Team Yasmeen.

"There's a lot of story in the coming weeks coming out of the tensions that creates in that relationship and the difficulties that poses for them as a married couple, with polar opposite views over what was going on next door. It's a really interesting and complicated story."

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7.30pm on ITV.
