Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has revealed Gemma Winter's story going forward following her post-natal depression storyline, and she will "come out the other side somewhat changed".

Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) was recently diagnosed with the condition after seeking help following the birth of the quads, and producer Iain MacLeod has explained that mum Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) will play a key role in helping her

Praising Dolly-Rose, he told Digital Spy and other media: "Ultimately the Gemma story will be heartbreaking and will draw in her mother Bernie, who becomes slightly her saviour really.

"I know Bernie has been nothing but a troublemaker for a lot of this, but I think this is her chance to redeem herself for some of the misdeeds she committed during the Paul story.

"She's there, right by Gemma's side. She was the first to spot the severity of the problems that Gemma is going through. She's a rock for Gemma really, to use that old cliche! There's loads of great stuff to come for those two."

MacLeod continued: "We wanted to tell a story with some positivity, so ultimately Gemma will come out the other side of this somewhat changed with what she's been through emotionally, but with a new level of appreciation and love for her mum, and obviously will go on to become a fantastic mum to those quads in her own inimitable way.

"I'm not saying she won't occasionally feed them turkey twizzlers and Wotsits, and let them watch Nightmare on Elm Street at the age of 11, and all those other things you might expect Gemma to do with her kids.

"But ultimately, at the bottom of it, she's a fantastic mum and it throws off the spectre of her own upbringing.

"I think Gemma thought she'd be a terrible mother because her own mother was a terrible one," he added. "But this will ultimately give her the confidence to believe in herself a bit."

Coronation Street currently airs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7.30pm on ITV.
