Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has opened up about Liz McDonald's most controversial storyline, in which Liz suffered domestic abuse at the hands of husband Jim (Charlie Lawson).
Speaking to The Mirror, Callard recalled how the storyline was so controversial it even made it onto the news, while some fans sent Lawson death threats.
"Jim beating up Liz got the biggest reaction from viewers," she said. "Liz was on News at Ten, which warned people to look out for signs of domestic violence, while Charlie got death threats.
"It was great to be able to help raise awareness of such a difficult subject."

Speaking more about her time on the cobbles, Callard said: "It's mind-blowing to be here 30 years on.

"I can walk into the green room today and there are so many new people sometimes I won't recognise anyone. But other days I'll be in there surrounded by friends I've made for life."
Callard is leaving the ITV soap in July and will be joining the hit play The Thunder Girls, which tells the story of an '80s girlband who reunite after 30 years, only to find themselves clashing with each other.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
