Coronation Street fans are divided over the soap's decision not to air a live episode for the show's upcoming 60th anniversary.
For both its 40th and 50th milestones, the long-running ITV series celebrated by offering audiences a chance to see their favourite actors perform in real-time. But just a few days ago, producer Iain MacLeod confirmed that it was "time to do something different" in 2020.
"It will have a little bit of everything so that nobody goes away unsatisfied. We won't be doing a live episode," he explained to The Daily Star. "But it won't be any less ambitious."

It's safe to say that the news is likely to have delighted actor Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Bradley, seeing as she'd said just a few days earlier that she didn't want Coronation Street to do another live episode.
Viewer opinion on the matter, however, is much more torn.

In a poll presented by Digital Spy, 51% of voters agree with Matthews and are excited to see what the soap comes up with instead. Meanwhile, that means 49% wish the soap was going to keep the tradition going.
When asked whether they'd be bringing back any fan favourites to commemorate Corrie being on air for six decades, MacLeod remained coy on whether or not beloved barmaid Bet Lynch would be making a comeback.
"Bet is an icon. The idea of bringing her back is talked about occasionally. As any Corrie viewer would say, she is up there in the pantheon of Corrie greats," he said. "So it's always tempting to bring her back."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
