Coronation Street's Maria Connor comes out fighting for her ex-boyfriend Ali Neeson next week as his career continues to hang in the balance.
Maria (Samia Longchambon) can't resist getting involved on the day that Ali faces the music for misdiagnosing Emma Brooker.
Ali (James Burrows) recently made a big mistake by failing to spot that Emma needed emergency medical attention, sparking an angry reaction from her father Steve McDonald.
Next week, Ali is nervous as he prepares to attend a meeting with his bosses to defend himself.

Dr Gaddas will also be at the meeting, so Emma (Alexandra Mardell) decides to approach her beforehand and makes a haphazard attempt at defending Ali.

Emma insists that she deliberately played down her symptoms when speaking to Ali, so he couldn't have known any better. Dr Gaddas dismisses this by insisting that the responsibility of making a diagnosis is the doctor's, not the patient's.
Seeing that the conversation isn't going well, Maria rushes over and backs Emma up, insisting that it was one stupid mistake and Ali has been going through a tough time in his personal life. Dr Gaddas gives nothing away and heads off.

Later, Maria's villainous new boyfriend Gary Windass (Mikey North) is irritated when Emma mentions how Maria stuck up for Ali.
Is Maria's intervention a sign that she still has feelings for Ali? And will it have any impact on Ali's fate?
