Tonight's double bill of Coronation Street saw Gary Windass faced with a new blackmail threat from Rick Neelan's right-hand woman Sharon after she caught him trying to frame Rick for the Underworld roof collapse.
The new villain has recently found himself in the frame for the disaster after arousing the suspicions of his ex-girlfriend Sarah Platt.
With Gary realising that he needed to divert everyone's attention elsewhere, he decided to pin the crime on his murder victim Rick Neelan, who's obviously no longer around to defend himself.
However, after breaking into Rick's home and smearing the loan shark's jacket in anti-vandal paint in the hope it would convince the police that Rick was at the scene of the collapse, Gary was caught by Rick's former debt collector Sharon.
Gary was left with no choice but to admit his crimes to Sharon, telling her that he murdered Rick in self defence, and that he was planning to pin the roof collapse on his victim.
"I had to stop him Sharon," he said. "I had to know that he can't come after us again."

With Sharon now aware that Rick is dead and Gary was responsible for the disaster, Gary attempted to cover his tracks by offering Sharon £15k to buy her silence.
And Gary's plan worked too, with the police hauling him in for questioning only for DS Beckett to reveal he was free to go after they found Rick's paint-smeared jacket and found a witness to corroborate his story.
But you don't work with a man like Rick Neelan and not learn a thing or two yourself, as Gary was later seen handing the money over to Sharon, who told him that she'd only keep quiet as long as he kept paying for Rick's daughter Kelly's school fees.
With a final warning to Gary that if he stays in the lending game he'll end up like Rick, Sharon soon left – but is she more dangerous than Gary realises?
After all, Sharon now knows two of his darkest secrets, and we can't imagine Gary will take too well to being blackmailed like that. Will Sharon become his next victim?
