Casualty stars Neet Mohan (Rash Masum) and Di Botcher (Jan Jenning) have teamed up for a powerful new project away from the show. The pair will be collaborating on a short film called Stones, which is written and directed by Mohan.

"After developing 'Stones' for a while, I'm finally launching the crowdfunding campaign. It's a project that's incredibly close to my heart, inspired by experiences I had while living in Cardiff Bay," he shared on Instagram.

"I'd be hugely grateful if you'd take a look. Link in bio. Thank you for the support."

Set in Cardiff in 2021, the film follows the arrival of Afghan refugees after the fall of Kabul to the Taliban.

It centres around a Welsh grandmother, played by Botcher, whose world changes when her granddaughter befriends one of the refugee children.

On his Crowdfunder page, Mohan explained how his own experiences while living in Cardiff Bay helped him develop the story.

"I was passing a nearby play park and I saw it filled with families that had arrived from the other side of the world. And it was something that really stayed with me," he said.

"What also stayed with me was the kindness, compassion and warmth from the local community to welcome these families that had arrived under extremely difficult circumstances. Stones came from that experience."

The actor explained that the film is about "empathy, grief, compassion, human connection" at its heart, which are "things that we can all relate to".

He went on to request help to secure the remaining funding for the film's production and post-production stages, adding that a donation of any size would be "hugely appreciated".

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
