Casualty has cleared up the ongoing confusion around Paige Allcott's role in the show.

Shalisha James-Davis joined the BBC medical drama as new F1 doctor Paige last year, with her first scenes airing back in January.

Paige was then thrown into a hard-hitting new story when her mum died of breast cancer, forcing her to undergo medical tests to find out if she had the same BRCA gene.

Although Paige ultimately tested positive for the gene, her role in her own story seemed somewhat scarce – with Robyn and Rash doing most the heavy-lifting instead.

To add to the confusion, Paige has barely featured in the new series –but will back properly in future episodes.

More recently, Shalisha has been appearing in new BBC drama Crossfire, sparking further speculation amongst fans.

However, a BBC spokesperson has confirmed to Digital Spy that Shalisha is very much still part of the cast, and we will be seeing Paige back on screen in a few weeks' time.

Shalisha addressed her role on Crossfire after the final episode aired last night (September 22), saying: "I am so honoured to have been able to work with some of the best in the game. I can't tell you how much I learnt on this job and Amara will always be such an inspo to me. What a brave gal, thank you to Louise, Keeley and Tessa for trusting me with her story.

"Outstanding Cast and Crew who worked so incredibly hard and took real good care of me. And our amazing producers Chris, Lawrence and Alex, thank you so much for pushing for us to make this incredible show."

Casualty will be taking a very short break this week, appearing next on Saturday, October 1.

Viewers were treated to a double edition earlier this month to make up for its absence tomorrow night (September 24).

Robyn's surrogacy story will be taking centre stage again when Casualty returns next month, while Faith and Iain are thrown together to solve a challenging case.

Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One.
