M3GAN is back in cinemas this June – and this time in M3GAN 2.0, she's on our side... kind of.

The wild first trailer has now dropped for the horror sequel, and sees M3GAN take on a rival AI known as Amelia after she's given some upgrades to be stronger, faster and taller. She also seems to be able to fly.

We're sure none of this will backfire on M3GAN's creator Gemma (Allison Williams) or her niece Cady (Violet McGraw) who, as we see in the trailer, M3GAN still insists that she's there to protect.

The reason for M3GAN's return is that the underlying tech has been stolen without Gemma's knowledge, misused by a defence contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno) who is the ultimate killer spy.

As ever, Amelia starts to question why she's taking orders from humans and with the future of human existence on the line, M3GAN is humanity's only hope.

M3GAN 2.0 is released in cinemas on June 27, and we know you'll want to mark that in your diaries after watching the first trailer.

The sequel also brings back Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma's teammates Cole and Tess, respectively, while newcomers include Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp and Jemaine Clement.

Talking to EW in December, returning director Gerard Johnstone revealed that the sequel was an expansion of his original idea for the ending of M3GAN.

"The good thing about doing a sequel is I got the chance to expand on that idea into a longer narrative. The idea James had fit really well with that. So, it was just a really good marriage of those two things," he explained.

The M3GAN universe is also expanding with spin-off SOULM8TE, which is set to be released in cinemas in January 2026.

M3GAN 2.0 is released in cinemas on June 27.
