An extended trailer for the new Lilo & Stitch movie has been released, with Disney fans already dubbing it "perfect".

Releasing in May, the remake from Dean Fleischer Camp — writer-director of Oscar-nominated animated movie Marcel the Shell with Shoes On — tells the story of the titular, unlikely best friends duo made up of human girl Lilo and adorable alien Stitch.

The new clip sees original Lilo & Stitch star Chris Sanders reprising the role of Stitch. It's won the hearts of even the staunchest fans of the original movie too, as many praised the remake for incorporating some key elements of the OG movie in the YouTube comments section.

One person called the remake "perfect", celebrating the upcoming film for using Elvis Presley's '(You're the) Devil in Disguise', which was also featured on the soundtrack of the 2002 movie.

"Omg from everything to the [Elvis] music to the ice cream dropping on the floor this is perfect," they commented, referencing a nod to an unlucky ice cream lover character featured in the original film.

The excitement also spilled over to X/Twitter. "I'll admit that I have been VERY critical of many of Disney's recent decisions and products. That being said; this looks like a return to form and a lot of fun. Well done," one social media user wrote.

Another commented: "Oh I'm gonna be an absolute weeping puddle of a mess by end of this movie. Literally looks perfect."

Alongside Sanders lending his voice to the cute alien once again, the remake also stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Lilo's older sister Nani. The main cast is rounded out by Courtney B Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Zach Galifianakis as Dr Jumba Jookiba, and Hannah Waddingham voices the Grand Councilwoman.

There are some other original stars in new roles, too. Tia Carrere and Amy Hill, who voiced Nani and Mrs. Hasagawa in the original movie, play social worker Mrs Kekoa and Tūtū in the upcoming movie. Jason Scott Lee, who previously voiced Nani's boyfriend David, stars as a lū'au manager.

Lilo & Stitch's live-action adaptation is due to be released in cinemas on May 23. The original movie is streaming on Disney+.
