The first trailer for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch has been released.

Based on the 2002 animated classic, the Disney film centres around an orphaned Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai, who is raised by her older sister Nani after their parents' deaths.

To help heal her broken family, Lilo adopts an extraterrestrial creature, which she renames Stitch. The pair soon develop a close bond, causing Stitch to reconsider his destructive tendencies.

The film, which has been directed by Dean Fleischer Camp from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, is set to hit cinemas on May 23, 2025.

Chris Sanders, who wrote and directed the 2002 film with Dean DeBlois, has returned to voice Stitch – the creature he created.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sanders previously teased his return as the iconic character, saying that the script is "really cool".

"I continue to do his voice for different things. Every once in a while, I'll go into a booth and do some recordings, and it's always nice to hear about how he's still out there, and people still know who he is," he said.

"I have been able to see a few things [of the new film], and I can't tell you what I've seen. But they allowed me to see some peeks of what they wrote, too, and it's really cool."

Tia Carrere, who voiced Lilo's sister Nani in the animated film, will also appear in the upcoming movie as Mrs Kekoa, while Amy Hill will return as new character Tūtū, Lilo and Nani's neighbour.

The remake's cast also includes Only Murders in the Building's Zach Galifianakis, Ted Lasso's Hannah Waddingham and Road House's Billy Magnussen, as well as Maia Kealoha, Sydney Agudong, Kaipo Dudoit and Courtney B. Vance.

Lilo & Stitch's live-action adaptation is due to be released in cinemas on May 23, 2025.
