Miles Teller's boxing biopic Bleed for This has been picked up at the Cannes Film Festival.

Open Road Films is buying the film, which sees the Whiplash star take on the role of boxer Vinny Pazienza, Variety reports.

The film, which is being produced by Martin Scorsese, is expected to be released during the forthcoming award season.

Teller recently revealed his incredible transformation for his role as the world champion lightweight boxer, sharing a picture of his bulked up physique and impressive six-pack during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Bleed for This follows Teller as Pazienza (also known as Vinny Paz), who shot to stardom before being involved in a near-fatal car crash.

Told that he would never walk again, he defied doctors' orders by returning to the gym under trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart) and went on to win several more titles.
