Louis Partridge has broken his silence on rumours around James Bond. The actor, who has notably appeared in Netflix's Enola Holmes movies and series House of Guinness, was linked to the coveted role earlier this year.

At the time, it was reported he was "in contention" for the part, though it was stressed that it was speculative at that point.

Asked by Variety about the rumours at the Enola Holmes 3 premiere last night, Partridge was pressed on whether he ever imagined he would be in a category of what a studio is looking for in the next Bond.

"No, no. Not yet at least. But that’s something to keep in mind," he responded, before admitting that being named as a top candidate was "wonderful".

It comes after reports that the ongoing auditions process has advanced to the next stage, with those actors who have gotten to the next round now informed – meaning as few as five to seven are now battling it out to be the next 007.

What to Read Next

The next Bond movie will be overseen by Amazon MGM after taking over creative control last year, with Dune's Denis Villeneuve and Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight acting as director and writer, respectively.

Teasing progress on the new movie last month, Knight told Deadline: "I can't [say anything] apart from: It's really, really good. It's going incredibly well, we've got the best people. I can't wait for people to see it!"

He added that "everything is going fantastically" and is writing the screenplay without an actor in mind, before speaking about the scripting process.

"The books are so good. So underrated as literature," he said. "There's something about the world that [Ian Fleming] created that is tangibly real, and yet it's not real. It's almost dreamlike somehow. And I just love the way, the style of how he writes, and the dialogue is so good."
