Classic spy thriller The Bourne Identity is currently streaming for free in the UK.

Matt Damon's first outing as hard-as-nails spy Jason Bourne is available to watch on 5's streaming service for free with ads — but it'll only be there until 1 September.

The Bourne Identity was removed from Prime Video UK last month, so your only other options to catch the iconic action thriller are to buy or rent it digitally or on disc from the likes of Amazon or HMV.

The film follows our titular protagonist as he awakes without his memory and a trio of assassins on his trail. Thankfully, he's still got his incredible skills in hurting people really badly.

Released in 2002, The Bourne Identity was something of a revolution, changing the genre for the rest of the decade and beyond.

What to Read Next

In a 2022 retrospective, The Guardian wrote: "[It's] a film that would so heavily influence the future of action film-making that it doesn’t feel the least bit dated today.

"Providing a model for both the rest of the Mission: Impossible franchise and the Daniel Craig-led reboot of James Bond, The Bourne Identity nailed the formula of the modern action film: a stoic intelligence agent who has a complicated relationship with his own government."

It's a huge fan-favourite too, with one viewer on IMDb dubbing it: "One of the best spy films around."

"The action is crisp, making every hit land with impact," wrote a second fan, while a third wrote: "You can never really tell where the film is going to end up, which makes it all the more gripping."

A new movie in the franchise was announced to be in early development in 2023, but there's been no official word since.

The Bourne Identity is available to stream now on 5.
