The Bourne franchise warned us there was never just one. We get to meet some of the others in the first look at the spin-off series Treadstone.
The USA Network action-adventure show takes place in a fractured timeline — before the events of the first Bourne film and in the present day — to explore the organisation that turned Jason Bourne into a sleeper assassin.
As the first-look teaser proves, Treadstone has had plenty of other trained killers in the field all over the world — all of them unaware that they could be activated at any time to be sent on a deadly mission.
"These people are still out there. Asleep. And someone's waking them up," Omar Metwally's character explains at one point.
Three of the assassins Treadstone wakes up are J. Randolph Bentley (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again's Jeremy Irvine), Doug McKenna (Sense8's Brian J. Smith) and SoYun (W's Han Hyo-joo), instantly transforming them into brutal killing machines.
"I was confused at first, but I finally know who I am," one of the sleeper agents warns.
What to Read Next
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Tim Kring (Heroes) confirmed that "the events from Jason Bourne’s story are definitely present" in Treadstone because they have "a long-lasting impact on the CIA and many of our characters".
However, he explained: "Although our series follows multiple storylines, each episode will vary in terms of how much time we spend with certain characters based on where we are at in telling our story. The characters we follow are not just Cicadas.
"Others include a disgraced journalist working as a London taxi driver and an elderly couple living in the countryside of Russia.
"We follow our characters’ personal journeys as they try to make sense of these events and eventual crossover between the stories becomes more and more likely as the season continues."
Treadstone is coming to the USA network in October.
