Sorry Jason Bourne fans, Matt Damon doesn't reckon there will be another outing for his super assassin.

Talking to the Toronto Sun, he reckoned that the box office takings of last year's Jason Bourne mean there won't be another one, despite the fact that it's the second highest-grossing of the series with $416 million worldwide.

The issue is that it made less than The Bourne Ultimatum's $443m.

"It would have to be a pretty incredible story to get us all back on the horse," Damon explained. "This last one didn't do as well as the one we did 10 years ago, so maybe people are done with the character."

That's not to say that he's ruling out another outing as the deadly Treadstone agent.

"Look, we all love working together and those movies are a lot of fun to make, so we sure would be happy to do it. If we can figure out a good story," Damon said.

He's backed up by Bourne producer Frank Marshall, who added that the open-ended climax to Jason Bourne means that the character could return, as long as there's an "intriguing story" to tell.

Before the release of Jason Bourne, it was revealed that Universal wanted Damon and director Paul Greengrass to keep making more of the series until they can't anymore.
