The Bourne Identity, the "unpredictable" spy thriller starring Matt Damon, is leaving Prime Video later this month.

The 2002 film is the first instalment of the Bourne series, with the action following Jason Bourne (Damon). After being recovered from the ocean with a bout of amnesia, Jason aims to uncover the nature of his identity and his work with the CIA.

Based on Robert Ludlum's 1980 novel of the same name, the action thriller is currently available to view on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland, though audiences only have a few weeks to watch it as it will be removed from the streamer on 31 July.

Directed by Doug Liman, the stellar supporting cast includes Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Julia Stiles, Brian Cox and Walton Goggins, all of whom are involved in Jason's quest to uncover his identity.

The film was followed by direct sequels - The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum - in 2004 and 2007 respectively. A fourth main instalment, titled Jason Bourne, was released in 2016, while Jeremy Renner fronted the 2012 spin-off, The Bourne Legacy.

The Austin Chronicle was similarly positive as they said that the "particularly adult" narrative would make audiences "think", while the San Francisco Chronicle remarked that the espionage thriller possessed a "modern sensibility".

While the franchise hasn't been on the big screen for nearly a decade, it was reported in 2023 that a sixth film was in development. Damon was said to be reprising his role, with All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger tentatively attached to the project.

The Bourne Identity is available on Prime Video until 31 July.
