Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt's space romance Passengers is going into pre-production.
The pair were first attached to the script, which had been doing the rounds for several years, back in February, before financial wrangling behind the scenes put the project in jeopardy, The Hollywood Reporter says.
Tom Rothman decided to go ahead with the film after he replaced Amy Pascal as chairman of Sony's motion picture group.
Rothman had been met with opposition when he reportedly asked director Morten Tyldum if the budget could be cut from $150 million including production incentives down to $90 million.
Lawrence will be paid a reported $20 million against 30% of the profit after break-even.
Pratt's salary is said to have increased from $10m to $12m because his deal was tied into the box office success of the record-breaking Jurassic World.
Filming is due to start this September.
