Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has revealed some big news about the upcoming Netflix movie.

Picking up from the events of the Peaky Blinders finale, The Immortal Man will follow the Shelby family during World War II. The movie will see the return of Cillian Murphy, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee and Ian Peck; with newcomers Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth and Jay Lycurgo also joining the cast.

In an interview with The Playlist, Knight praised fans for their dedication to the show, and explained why he wanted to continue the story as a movie.

"I just wanted to do it," he said. "I mean, part of it is, and this is not obviously the prime motivation, although I could pretend it is: I really want the Peaky fans who have been a big part of this, the way they found it."

Despite being developed for the streaming service, Knight revealed that fans will get to experience the "mind-blowingly good" movie on the big screen.

"It was never promoted massively, but people just found it and told each other about it," he said of the show. "And the way that they're so passionate about it, I really want them to be watching this all together in one building because the communication has all been virtual, which is fine.

"But I do want this to be in cinemas so that people can sit there together and watch this thing happen."

When asked if Netflix was planning a cinema release for The Immortal Man, Knight confirmed: "Yes. Well, I've just made that announcement. So, yes."

Elsewhere in the interview, the creator addressed the possibility of more spin-off content. "As long as there's an appetite for it and people want it and I've got stories to tell, then why not?" he said.

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix. The Immortal Man does not yet have a confirmed release date.
