Legendary actor Goldie Hawn jokingly said that she is struggling with a health condition, as she presented an award with Andrew Garfield at last night's Oscars ceremony.

Hawn, known for Death Becomes Her, The First Wives Club, and, more recently, The Christmas Chronicles duology, took to the stage with Spider-Man and We Live in Time actor Garfield to announce the Animated Feature Film winner.

As Hawn started to read from the autocue, she asked Garfield to take over and said: "OK. Sweetheart, can you read that? I can't read that."

"I'm completely blind. I mean, I am!" she added, stating that she has cataracts, a condition involving the eye's lenses fogging up.

Entertainment Weekly states that the moment was a scripted joke, and when the duo returned to present the award for Animated Short Film, she read the autocue without difficulty.

It's not clear whether Hawn actually has trouble with her vision or not. Digital Spy has reached out to her representatives for comment.

Before the cataracts moment, Garfield paid a sincere tribute to Hawn, explaining that his late mother had been a huge fan before her passing in 2019.

"There's a person who gave my mother during her life the most joy, the most comfort, and tonight, I feel very lucky, because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart," he said. "That person is Goldie Hawn."

As Hawn got a little bit visibly emotional on stage, Garfield held her hand and continued: "You've given us movies full of joy. You've lifted our spirits and you've made us feel it all was right with the world, over and over again."

She thanked him and said his tribute "really touches me".
