Daisy Ridley's long-delayed Star Wars movie New Jedi Order has received an exciting update after hiring a new writer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming movie has enlisted The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12 writer George Nolfi to pen the script.

Set 15 years after the events of 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, the upcoming movie, which was first announced back in 2023, will follow Ridley's Rey Skywalker as she trains a new generation of Jedi.

Directed by documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the movie will serve as the director's first narrative feature debut.

The film has seen a number of different names take on writing duties before Nolfi took over with a number of high-profile writers exiting the project.

Starting off, writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were set to pen the film before Obaid-Chinoy took over as its director. Next up was Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, but he exited the movie in October 2024.

Script delays have seemingly pushed back any production starts on the feature and the next Star Wars movie to begin production is the as of yet untitled film from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.

Just last week it was revealed that Ryan Gosling is in talks to star as the project's lead, which will see Jonathan Tropper write the script.

Back in 2023, Ridley teased fans with what to expect from Rey's next outing, saying: "I'm very excited. The story is really cool. I'm waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don't have any other updates. It's not what I expected, but I'm very excited.

"So far, I know the story of one film, and I think people will be very excited," she added without going into further details.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are streaming on Disney+ and also available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K.
