Moore has already won 17 awards for her role in the film, including the 2015 Critics' Choice Awards for best actress. She is also nominated for an Oscar.

In an interview with the Press Association (via BBC News), the actress said that the role and reaction to the film had "been really amazing".

"It's been nice to hear from people that their experience was represented and they felt seen," she continued.

"That's probably the most rewarding experience that I've had, because I think there's a tremendous amount of shame around the disease and people feel like they're not seen, they feel isolated."

Moore went on to say that she hopes the awards season will prompt more people to see the film.

"It brings so much attention to the movie, and this is a movie we all care about, and so it's wonderful because hopefully people will see the film."

Directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, the film also stars Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart and Kate Bosworth.
