Chris Pratt has admitted he was “moved to tears” by his new sci-fi The Electric State.

The upcoming Netflix movie co-stars Millie Bobby Brown, and follows a futuristic world of robots and humans as a teenager sets out to find the brother she thought was dead.

Opening up about reading the screenplay by writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, which is based on the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, Pratt suggested at New York Comic Con that it was atypical of the current movie landscape.

“It’s not the kind of thing that typically gets made to be a blockbuster style movie like this,” he said (vai Bang Premier). “It’s so original, it’s a huge swing.

“I thought that these types of movies might be my last opportunity to be in a big movie like this. I have to look at every opportunity like that. And I did. It’s just such a great story. I was moved to tears reading.”

“It felt like a story about broken families and broken people trying to find each other in a broken world,” Joe Russo recently explained to Vanity Fair of the project. “It also felt resonant to us, raising our kids in a technology-heavy world.

“It could be an assaultive theme if the story were set in the present day. Sometimes we find that when you couch it in a fable, and you remove it from its immediacy, you can create space for people to process it differently.”

The Electric State is released on Netflix on March 14.
