Extraction spoilers follow.
Chris Hemsworth's follow-up to 2020's hit movie Extraction won't be released on Netflix this year, meaning fans will have to wait a little longer for the action sequel.
After filming on Extraction 2 wrapped in April earlier this year, many fans hoped that the action movie would arrive before the end of 2022.
However, no release date was ever confirmed and Collider is now reporting that the film won't be on the streaming service until 2023 – although no specific release date has been set.
Extraction was released back in 2020 and starred Thor actor Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a black ops mercenary who's tasked to save Ovi, the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord. However, his mission goes haywire when he's double-crossed.
Rake was presumed dead at the end of the movie after he was shot in the neck by the villain's henchman, having secured Ovi's safety. However, right at the end of the movie Ovi sees a blurred vision of a man resembling Rake, indicating he may have survived after all.
What to Read Next
A sequel to the movie, which was originally based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, was quickly greenlit. Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo returned as producers on the movie, with Joe Russo again writing the screenplay.
Meanwhile, Sam Hargrave, who directed the first movie, will return for the sequel. Hargrave had previously worked with the Russo brothers as a stunt coordinator on several Marvel movies, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
A first look at Extraction 2 was released last September, while Hemsworth also shared a video of his workout routine for the movie. Although the teaser consisted mostly of footage from the first film, it did confirm that Hemsworth's character had survived.
Extraction was Netflix's most-streamed piece of content upon its release, and was later watched by 99 million households in its first four weeks on the streaming service – at the time, the most streams ever for one of Netflix's original movies.
