By Killer Instinct season three is hitting Xbox One and Windows 10 next year.
The third run of characters will be introduced on both platforms, starting from March 2016.
In addition, Rash from the Battletoads series is joining the fighting game as a guest character today (August 4).
The announcements were made at Microsoft's gamescom briefing in Cologne.
"In my 20 years of making games for Microsoft, rarely have I seen a community as engaged and vibrant as the Killer Instinct community," said Microsoft Studios' head of publishing Shannon Loftis.
Elsewhere at the briefing, Quantum Break was given an April 2016 release date.
