The announcement you've all been waiting for is nearly here, as EA confirms plans to unveil the new Battlefield next week.

Battlefield 5 - or whatever it ends up being called - will be fully revealed next Friday (May 6) on Twitch. The premiere of the game's first ever trailer will take place from 9pm UK time.

"Get insight into the minds of the developers as you hear from the Creative Director Lars Gustavsson and Lead Producer Aleksander Grondal on the past, present and the future of Battlefield," reads a statement by Battlefield developer DICE. 

"You will be able to join in the conversation as we open the floor to questions from viewers."

Fans can find out even more about the new game by joining Battlefield Insider, which is also useful for in-game rewards, exclusive content and other goodies.

There are rumours that suggest the upcoming shooter will be set during the era of World Wars.

European retailer World of Games previously claimed the tactical shooter would be set during the First World War, while the producer of Battalion 1944 said he was "beyond excited" for Battlefield 5.

The next core Battlefield game was also given a holiday 2016 launch date during one of EA's financial reports, although it's unclear if it will launch before or after Titanfall 2.
