60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley may be in line to replace Katie Couric as the anchor of the CBS Evening News.
Yesterday, it was reported that Couric will likely depart as anchor when her current contract expires in June.
Network sources tell TMZ that CBS News boss Jeff Fager was guaranteed control over who anchors nightly news telecasts when he assumed the role of chairman earlier this year.
It is thought that Faber has personally selected Pelly to succeed Couric because he is well-respected by the corporation's execs.
Pelley has long history with CBS, first joining the news bureau more than 20 years ago and later covering significant world events including the Gulf War, the 1993 Word Trade Center bombing and acting as chief White House correspondent for more than two years.
He famously landed the only interview with former US President George W Bush on the first anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
