Katie Couric will leave CBS News when her current contract expires, it has been reported.
A network exec, speaking under terms of anonymity, told The AP on Sunday that the CBS Evening News anchor has chosen not to renew her contract, which is to expire in June.
It is thought that Couric's decision to leave CBS is motivated by an interest in launching her own syndicated talkshow next year.
In an official statement, CBS spokeswoman Sonya McNair insisted that the network is not yet willing to comment on the news anchor's future.
"We're having ongoing discussions with Katie Couric," McNair said. "We have no announcements to make at this time. Until we do, we will continue to decline comment on rumor or speculation."
The journalist's own spokesman Matthew Hiltzik also refused to comment on Couric's career plans.
