Hayley Atwell will play Agent Carter again on television - but there's a twist

Hayley Atwell is returning as Agent Carter - but in a different form.

The TV show's still cancelled - sorry - but Peggy (and Hayley's voice) will be back in animated guise for an upcoming episode of Avengers: Secret Wars.

Howard Stark is also due to appear - but it isn't confirmed if Dominic Cooper is reprising his role as Iron Man's dad.

We also know a few details about the episode's plot - with the help of time travel, Peggy, Captain America and Iron Man will try to stop Kang the Conqueror from doing dastardly things.

Avengers: Secret Wars is the fourth season of Disney XD's Avengers Assemble cartoon, and will have a superhero roster that includes Wasp, the Jane Foster version of Thor and Ms Marvel.

Agent Carter was officially cancelled after two seasons earlier this year. Atwell has since expressed interest in playing Peggy Carter on another network. Her co-star Dominic Cooper has also urged Amazon to pick it up, while Netflix have ruled themselves out of reviving the show.

Hayley's also keen on some kind of special, saying: "I would love it to be [made]. I hound [Marvel Studios co-president Louis] D'Esposito on a regular basis, saying, 'Give me a movie!'

"I think the great thing about Peggy is, we know from Winter Soldier that she lives a long life, so she can come back. I'm banking on, when I'm in my fifties, I'm like, 'This is the time. Let's see what Peggy's up to in this decade'."
