Sarah Michelle Gellar has been cast in a stacked series described as "outrageous" that's a spoof of mob crime dramas.

Hailed as The Sopranos meets Yogi Bear, Tubi's animated series Breaking Bear stars the Buffy actor as bear Blair, the "brain" of the family of adorable bears turned criminals (via Deadline).

The cast includes Schitt's Creek star Annie Murphy as human newscaster Tawny and Brendan Fraser as hot-headed oldest bear sibling Jer, while Frozen's Josh Gad voices the youngest bear sibling Alistar.

Elizabeth Hurley also features as the bears' big enemy Wolf Queen, sworn to protect the forest.

Created by Julien Nitzberg, Breaking Bear is described as "a fur-flying, law-breaking, forest-saving rampage following a dysfunctional family of bears who go full criminal to stop frackers, mobsters, and a psychotic wolf pack from destroying their home."

"As they spiral deeper into the criminal abyss, they face off against biker gangs, an egomaniacal news anchor, and their own spectacular talent for self-sabotage," the synopsis adds.

Taking to her Instagram, Gellar branded the series "the most fun [she's] ever had".

"With Brendan, Sarah, Annie, Elizabeth and Josh, we have an incredible cast of series regulars," Tubi chief content officer Adam Lewinson said.

"Breaking Bear is our wild, no-holds-barred send-up of classic mob sagas – from Scarface to Goodfellas – as a dysfunctional crew of bears crash headfirst into the world of crime, all in a desperate bid to save their forest.

"It’s bold, it’s chaotic, and we’re here for every outrageous second."

The series is produced by Nitzberg's company, as well as Evoke Entertainment and blink-182 member Tom DeLonge's To The Stars Media.

Gellar won't just be returning for the Buffy revival, but she'll also star in holiday dramedy Bad Summer People.

What she won't be starring in, however, is the previously announced sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer.

The sequel's director, and Gellar's friend, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson "tried" to bring Helen Shivers back from the dead to no avail.

"I tried to pitch some crazy shit too," Robinson told Entertainment Weekly. "I was like, 'What if it's like you weren't dead and you're actually alive, but in hiding?' And Sarah's like, 'I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body'.

"I was like, 'Yeah, but what if?' And she said, 'I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar'."

Breaking Bear will stream on Tubi.
