Lifetime has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming biopic Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.
Alexandra Shipp portrays the late popstar in the television film, which chronicles Aaliyah's rise to fame prior to her tragic death in a plane crash in 2001.
Lifetime's teaser for Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B debuted on Facebook on Friday (September 27).
Shipp is briefly glimpsed in full costume as Aaliyah as she showcases some of the 'Try Again' singer's signature dance moves.
Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B has been embroiled in controversy ever since it was officially announced by Lifetime.
Disney Channel star Zendaya was originally cast as Aaliyah, but dropped out ahead of filming and suggested that the subject matter was not being "handled delicately".
