Nurse Jackie will end with its seventh season.
Showtime confirmed today (September 10) that the critically-acclaimed dark comedy series will come to an end in 2015.
Edie Falco earned a Primetime Emmy Award in 2010 for her portrayal of a drug-addicted nurse in the Showtime series.
The pay channel's president David Nevins said of Nurse Jackie's end: "Edie is one of our finest actresses. We are so honoured to have had her on the network. She creates indelible characters and Nurse Jackie Peyton is no exception.
"I know this final season will bring her story to a close that will satisfy the ever-growing number of loyal viewers who have been entranced and, at times, appalled by Jackie through the years."
Showtime renewed Nurse Jackie for a seventh season back in April.
It was recently announced that three-time Emmy Award winner Tony Shalhoub is joining Nurse Jackie as a sympathetic new doctor at All Saints' Hospital.
