Samira Wiley has been promoted to series regular in Netflix's Orange is the New Black.

Wiley plays inmate Poussey Washington in the series, which was adapted from Piper Kerman's memoir by Weeds producer Jenji Kohan.

The actress's series regular status will begin in season three of the prison drama, according to Deadline.

Orange is the New Black was recently renewed for a third season, shortly before the premiere of season two.

Cast member Adrienne C Moore - who plays Black Cindy - was also recently made a series regular for the ensemble show, which stars Taylor Schilling.

While cast member and Schilling's on-screen love interest Laura Prepon had a lesser presence in season two, she will reportedly have a larger role in season three.
