FX are developing a TV sequel to American Psycho.
Bret Easton Ellis's original novel focused on a wealthy investment banker who was secretly a serial killer in the late 1980s.
Christian Bale starred as Patrick Bateman in a film version in 2000, directed by Mary Harron.
The TV series will be set several years after the book ended, and will feature Bateman in his mid-50s as he hires a new apprentice.
The official tagline for the show reads: "In the new drama series, iconic serial killer Patrick Bateman, now in his mid-50s but as outrageous and lethal as ever, takes on a protégé in a sadistic social experiment who will become every bit his equal - a next-generation American Psycho."
Stefan Jaworski will write the project, to be co-produced by Lionsgate and FX.
What to Read Next
American Psycho will follow several other serial killer-based TV shows if greenlit, such as A&E's Bates Motel, NBC's Hannibal, Showtime's Dexter and Fox's The Following.
A movie remake of the 2000 film was said to have been in the works back in 2011, but this failed to materialise.
A musical version will premiere in London in December, making its debut at the Almeida Theatre for a short run on December 3. Performances will then continue until January 25, 2014.
