Everyone is waiting with baited breath to hear who the new Strictly Come Dancing hosts will be after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced they were stepping back. One of the names being thrown around a lot is Alan Carr, especially after last week.

Last Thursday viewers saw Alan win The Celebrity Traitors, fooling everyone into banishing Joe Marler and believing that he was a Faithful, nabbing the entire prize pot for himself (well, his chosen charity Neuroblastoma UK).

Following his win, current contestant Lewis Cope backed Alan for the job.

"I think Alan would be brilliant," the former Emmerdale actor told The Mirror. "He's funny, people love him, and he's really current. Why not?

"He'd be hilarious with the judges – he'd probably go, 'I don't know what you're talking about, but you were brilliant!'"

His partner Katya Jones did agree, but did add that her ideal choice would be for someone who has already been part of the Strictly family for 12 years.

"Alan would be great fun, but I think Jannette Manrara would make an amazing host," Katya said. "She knows the dancing, she knows what we go through. She'd bring real heart."

Janette has been a professional dancer on Strictly since 2013, receiving her first score of 40 and reaching the final for the first time in 2020, when she was paired with singer HRVY.

The next year, she transitioned to becoming one of the hosts of spin-off series Strictly: It Takes Two.

Meanwhile, Alan's semi-autobiographical sitcom Changing Ends, about a gay teenager growing up in the '80s with a football manager dad, is set to return for its third season soon.

He's also filmed the second season of Last One Laughing UK, and according to co-star Bob Mortimer, he doesn't do as well on it as he did on The Celebrity Traitors.

"It's very difficult not to laugh. Can you imagine the problem Alan had trying not to laugh?" Bob said. "He's a giggler."

Strictly airs Saturday and Sunday nights on BBC One, and It Takes Two airs weekdays on BBC Two. Both shows can be streamed on iPlayer, as can The Celebrity Traitors.
