Over a year and a half since leaving the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Zoe Ball's newest radio role has been announced, and it's a major move away from the broadcaster.

Greatest Hits Radio announced today that Zoe will be joining the station and present the afternoon slot from early September.

The news was confirmed in a social media video parodying The Traitors, which features fellow former BBC Radio and now Greatest Hits Radio presenters Ken Bruce and Simon Mayo welcoming her into the fold, with dramatic music and green cloaks and all.

"Well, Ken, I never thought we'd get anyone else from the old place", Simon said in the video, which caused Ken to say "less of the 'old', please".

We then see Zoe, with her hood up, walking down a corridor as she pledges in voiceover form to only play hits from the '70s, '80s, and '90s, and to stop whatever she's doing for PopMaster.

What to Read Next

When she joins Ken and Simon, they do some mock-reality-TV-shock-faces and she tells them: "I couldn't let you have all the fun, could I?"

"One more from the old place! Please welcome our newest recruit", reads the caption. "Zoe Ball in the Afternoon launches 7 September 2026, only on Greatest Hits Radio."

Zoe's show will be sandwiched between Ken's mid-morning show and Simon's drivetime show, which is the 1pm to 4pm slot current occupied by Kate Thornton. Kate will front a new primetime Saturday show as part of the schedule changes.

She will also continue to front the Dig It podcast alongside fellow BBC Radio host Jo Whiley.

Although the show is a few months away from launching, the station's content director Andy Ashton revealed that "Zoe and the team are already working on the new show".

Last month, Zoe stated that she had been working through "the seven stages of grief and rejection" over not getting the Strictly Come Dancing hosting job, after having fronted It Takes Two for years, but was very supportive of the trio that were announced.

Zoe Ball in the Afternoon starts on Greatest Hits Radio on 7 September.
