At long last, the Faithfuls have finally captured and unmasked a Traitor – the cunning Jonathan Ross in Wednesday night’s episode of The Celebrity Traitors – but the drama wasn’t finished for the evening as the final 'Big Dog' fled the castle.

With there being just two episodes left before the finale next Thursday night, the show’s producers have decided to shake things up with a bit of a last-minute twist – possibly decided on before Jonathan was ousted. While it’s a highly welcome addition, viewers are now worried that the end result of the mission will see two fan favourites kicked out of the game.

All the final contestants – we’re down to just seven people now we’re in the home straight – were told to look forward to a dinner party (although Nick Mohammed moaned he was still too full on that night’s lasagne). This is The Celebrity Traitors though, so it’ll be someone’s last supper, as one person will be murdered at the table.

The remaining Traitors, Alan Carr and Cat Burns, were told the highly specific manner in which the kill would be executed: one person needed to toast another member of the dining party with the phrase "Parting is such sweet sorrow" – which, former GCSE English students will remember is from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

While Stephen Fry could have happily thrown this into the convo and people would be none the wiser, for Cat or Alan, it’s going to look blindingly obvious.

And with Alan stuck with the killing duties again – come on Cat, surely it was your turn to take one for the Traitors' team? – he’s panicking. In turn, fans are now convinced that it’s going to be so blatant that the Faithfuls won’t fail to identify him as the murderer/Traitor, voting him out at the next round table.

And, with suspicion from the other Faithfuls firmly on David Olusoga, Nick and, to a certain degree, Kate Garraway, the person Alan will have to throw the iconic theatrical line to is Celia Imrie – one of the most popular celebrity contestants in the series thanks to her bubbly tum in one of the earlier missions.

Some viewers are now annoyed that two of the key players might not be around for the end of the game now. On X, one user predicted how it was going to go, writing: "Alan: Parting is such sweet sorrow - Celia…", while another called foul on the producers: "Production were like they ain’t ever getting a Traitor so let’s make it bloody obvious who a Traitor is…"

One viewer added: "Another murder in plain sight? Basically giving them a Traitor on a plate lol cause these Faithful are so bad at the game. I don't love that interference with the game tbh."

"Rubbish challenge, may as well just announce 'I am a Traitor' at the dinner party," said another.

It has to be Celia, another viewer reasoned, for her dramatic background: "Celia being a Shakespearean actor has to be said to her to sound normal nooooo plz no", leading someone else to add: "I think Joe will work out another Traitor tonight with the 'Murder in plain sight'."

Meanwhile, one person had tips for the best way to do it: "Easy murder say it end of the evening when everyone is pissed on wine." To which we add: yes, this is indeed the correct path to follow – but there's nothing sweet at all about this parting sorrow.

The Celebrity Traitors is next on BBC One on Thursday 30 October at 9pm.
