The Traitors season 3 spoilers follow.

The Traitors star Paul Gorton has criticised the show's new rule change.

The hugely popular reality game show returned to our screens on January 1 for its third season, kicking off the new year with a bang. The season three premiere revealed a host of new surprises, including a shocking twist for the finale.

Unlike in previous years, the contestants were informed that those who make it to the final will no longer reveal their identities when they leave. The format change means the finalists will have to rely even more on their instincts before deciding whether to end the game.

"What do you think to the rule change for the final ep? Will it make a big difference for the remaining traitors?" he was asked by a fan. "Don't like it, I didn't think the final needed tampering with," Paul replied.

Despite his objections, the star explained how other clues could emerge for the contestants without identities being revealed. He added: "It'll never be just a walk off, there's facial expressions and body language that may make it intriguing. Let's see how it plays out."

In another first for the show, the season three premiere saw three brutal eliminations before the contestants had even reached the castle.

After boarding the train, the 25 hopefuls were given a shocking ultimatum over the tannoy by host Claudia Winkleman. With only 22 spaces available on the show, the three carriages were told they would have to remove one person from each carriage.

With time ticking and £10,000 at stake, Fozia, Jack and Alexander all volunteered to exit the train, eliminating themselves from the competition. But could yet another twist be on the way?

The Traitors airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
